Important things to keep in mind for your checkride...

You want to pass this checkride.

Your CFI wants you to pass this checkride.

I want you to pass this checkride.

We are all on the same team working toward this same goal!

The FAA provides a useful guide for each checkride:

the Airman Certification Standards (ACS) and Practical Test Standards (PTS).

The ACS/PTS tell me as the evaluator exactly what content and what standards I have to evaluate during the checkride.  More importantly the ACS/PTS will tell you as the applicant exactly what you need to do to pass your checkride.  You should always make sure you are familiar with the ACS/PTS before coming to your checkride, and you should hold your CFI accountable to incorporate these documents into your training.

Remember, EVERYONE gets nervous for checkrides…it’s not just you!

Make sure to get some sleep the night before the checkride—don’t stay up all night studying!

Don't forget to bring...

  • Your Photo ID, Pilot Certificate, and Medical Certificate

  • Your original knowledge test report

  • Your IACRA FTN# and make sure you know your IACRA log-in username/password

  • Checkride payment - (see acceptable forms of payment on Rates page)

  • Make sure your instructor (and your school if you're Part 141) have signed your application

  • Your pilot logbook -- please make sure it is legible and pages are totaled!  I am going to compare your application times against your logbook, so be ready to show me where you calculated each of the flight hours on your application

  • Feel free to bring your reference books and resources.  The ACS lists a number of publications which are acceptable to use during your checkride.

  • Aircraft MTX Records / Logbooks so that you can demonstrate that your aircraft is airworthy and current for our flight
